Child Abuse Reporting Requirements

National:

"The “Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Act of 2017” mandates that all amateur sports organizations, which participate in an interstate or international amateur athletic competition and whose membership includes any adult who is in regular contact with an amateur athlete who is a minor must report suspected child abuse, including sexual abuse, within 24 hours to law enforcement."

California:

Under California law, certain individuals (including teachers and school officials, day care or child care employees, employees of day camps or youth organizations or recreation programs or centers, directors, coaches, assistant coaches or athletic personnel at public or private sports organizations, public assistance workers, district attorneys, case workers, doctors or medical professionals or health care workers, counselors and therapists (including candidates), coroners, commercial film developers, animal control officers, clergy, law enforcement officers or employees of a police department, alcohol and drug counselors, among others) are required to report suspected child abuse to any police department, sheriff’s department, county probation department, or the county welfare department, but not including school district police or security. These agencies will also accept reports from persons not named above as mandatory reporters.

All managers, coaches, board members and other select volunteers with regular contact (defined as 16 or more hours in a month or 32 hours in a year) with our minor players MUST complete an Abuse Awareness for Adults course. Those completing the course become mandatory reporters.

The following course is recommended by Little League and meets these requirements.
